Is Your Fireplace Ready for the Winter?

Fireplaces can be an incredible addition to your home when our chilly fall, winter, and spring set in. Those long nights are made warm and cozy with the family when you’ve got a nice, hot fire to sit around. All of a sudden, movie night or screen time seems to pale in comparison to sitting around the fire and enjoying each other’s company.

Unfortunately, fireplaces can get unsafe when they sit for a very long time and are not addressed either with repairs or routine maintenance. Your fireplace might have gathered dust, it mighty be coated in soot that’s flammable, and it might even have a clogged vent that can lead to safety concerns.

Our team is full of licensed professionals who can help you with a quick fireplace check-up, or more comprehensive fireplace service in Burlington.

But one thing is clear, it’s fireplace time and you definitely don’t want to leave yours gathering dust this winter!

The Complications With a Neglected Fireplace

Here are just a few things that can go wrong with your fireplace over time, which are all good reasons to call our team for help.

  • A wearing down of the protective lining. Fireplaces are designed to have heat-resistant linings that can help keep the fire from doing any damage or mixing with chemicals or components of your home’s structure. A fireplace can eventually wear down that protective lining and cause damage to your home. You’ll want to make sure it’s in good shape for the next season.
  • Soot and ash need to be removed. Soot and ash are normal byproducts of a wood-burning furnace, but they can collect in large amounts and wreak havoc on your home safety. For one, they’re not good to breathe in when they’re spread around the air in your home. And also they’re flammable, which means your home is more likely to suffer from a fire hazard if there’s a lot of soot or ash in your fireplace.
  • Clear out the vents. Over time, your fireplace’s ventilation system can get clogged with the aforementioned soot and ash. The problem with this is that it’s completely necessary if you’re going to use your fireplace, and clogged vents can lead to disastrous results–from smoke inhalation to carbon monoxide poisoning. A licensed professional can at least check your vent and clean it to ensure this doesn’t happen.

Does Your Fireplace Need Repair?

Up until now, we’ve discussed proper maintenance techniques. However, many customers might need repairs rather than maintenance. For instance, you might have a gas fireplace that seemingly doesn’t turn on, or a system that smells like gas with no ignition happening. These are all good reasons to invest in fireplace repair.

If anything goes wrong with your system, your first step should be call us for help. We can then diagnose the problem with you and find a solution that works before the chilly season gets here in full swing.
