How Long Does Solar Panel Installation Take?

Installing solar panels on your home is a big step towards lowering your cost of living and carbon footprint at the same time, but let’s not pretend the process isn’t inconvenient.

Installing solar panels can take a bit of time, and you’re just trying to live your life. So how long will technicians be on your roof, and when will they be done?

The entire process can take a few days up to a week. It depends on the number of panels being installed, if you plan on installing batteries, and unforeseen obstacles like roof damage. Everything depends on the specific project.

What takes so long? Well, there are multiple stages in the solar panel installation process you should know about.

Site Assessment

The first step is an assessment, or inspection. Installation technicians evaluate your roof to make sure everything is A-okay to proceed.

They’ll also find the best spots on your roof for solar panels. Depending on your total roof size and if any problems are uncovered, the installation process may take longer than expected.

System Design

The next step is finding out which solar panel array makes sense for your roof, and what array to place them in. Now that technicians know your roof is ready to rock and roll, they can determine if any additional equipment is required, and how to proceed with installing the mounting hardware.

The system design stage is important if you plan to run your entire home on solar power. Let this goal be known early in the process.

Active Installation

Now there’s the time spent on installing everything from the panels to the inverter and beyond. Once the mounting hardware is in place, technicians will run wiring to the spots where each panel will go.

After that, panels are installed. This is closer towards the end of the process. Wiring is hooked up to each panel, they’re secured in place, and your technicians test to make sure everything is hooked up properly.

It’s Time to Go Solar

Solar panels hit a breakeven point 6-10 years after installation, but last 25-30+ years. This is your forever home, so why settle for anything less than the best?
